| Registration
for returning players occurs the Saturday before the start of the Alachua
County school year. The open registration is held the Saturday after school
begins. Another open registration is held one evening the week following
open registration. Players may continue to register up till the second
game day.
After registration the task of sorting takes place. Returning players get placed first, then new players based on a ticket number given at registration, lowest to highest. Also prioritized are those with siblings. YSI has a minimum and maximum number of players allowed on a team. The coordination of players' wishes such as location, time carpooling, siblings, coaches, and the parameters they must meet with age groups, team size, number of teams in a practice location and coach's wishes make for a complicated process. YSI has continually refined its procedure to achieve a most fair and consistent arrangement. If a player cannot get on a team of his/her first choice, the registrar will search for a team of second, then third choice. It is possible that players with higher ticket numbers may not get any of their choices; however, they will be placed on a team closest to their wishes. Annually this lead to unhappy parents and players but YSI wishes for their understanding of the complexity of the task as well as the great effort to remain consistent.
