New U7 Rules

YSI Gainesville U7 rules and regulations:

Playing numbers : 4 versus 4. No goalkeepers are used in this format. Nobody handles the ball when is it in play. There will be no result based competitions, but a festival format. A game by its nature is still competitive but we do not want to put external goals above player development.

Field Size and markings: Length 40 to 50 yards, Width 20 to 30 yards, goal area 3 yard arc, penalty Area not needed, goal 4 ft. high by 6 ft. long, center circle 5 yard radius, corner arc 1 yard radius (optional), corner flags cones can be used

Throw-ins will not be used in this age group. It is too complex of a task to perform according to the laws of the game and it takes too much time and therefore restricts the flow out of the game.

The player will pass the ball in bound, after the ball is placed on the ground right behind or on the touch line. No goal can be scored directly from an inbound pass. It has to touch another player first.

Fouls: Will only be called if bad intentions from the player(s) involved were observed by either one of the coaches. This could involve kicking, pushing, spitting, bad language, taunting, handling the ball, etc. Realize that these players miss a lot of the required coordination and a lot of the action will be unintentional. After serious foul play, the player will be asked to sit down the rest of the half/quarter. All free kicks will be indirect, which means another player has to touch the ball before it crossed the goal line.

Corners kicks are if the ball rolls across the goal line and is last touched by a defender . Goal kicks will be performed by any of the defending players after the ball crossed the goal line and was last touched by the offense. Goal kicks will be taken from behind or on the goal line in close proximity from where the ball went out of bounds. The opposing is to position on their half of the field till after the goal kick has been taken. No player is allowed in the goal area for more than 3 seconds. If a defender is guilty of this and is involved in the play or gains an advantage by being there, the offense will get an indirect free-kick from the center of the field. If an offensive player is guilty of being in the goal area for more than three seconds and gains advantage, the defense will get an indirect free-kick from the center of the field.

Game management: Both coaches will help supervise the game, just to allow it to flow properly and will stay out of the action as much as possible and on their own goal side of the field, unless an injury has to be attended to. No referees are necessary. Score will not be kept in an official manner.

Kick-off's remain for the beginning of the game and after the opposing team scored. There is an hour and 20 minutes allowed from the start of one game till the kick-off of the next game in our YSI model. Each coach will bring two teams of six players (A1 and A2, B1 and B2) of approximately equal strength to the field of play. Each team will therefore have two substitutions. That is if all players show up on game day. The coach is responsible for allowing equal playing time for all his players, regardless sex, age, and skill.

Schedule:

First game: A1 versus B1 (15 minutes)

Break to switch teams (2 minutes)

Second game: A2 versus B2 (15 minutes)

Half time (5 minutes)

Third game: A1 versus B2 (15 minutes)

Break to switch teams (2 minutes)

Fourth game: A2 versus B1 (15 minutes)

Post game celebration: 11 minutes

Coaches are encouraged to try to develop the diamond system of offense and defense, which is the basic structure in any soccer game at any level: one player in the front, two in the middle and one in the back.

The goal size is six feet wide and four feet tall (see index for field dimensions). There are four 15 minute quarters with a brief brake between.

GOAL BOX: The goal box, ten feet wide by six feet long, is directly in front of the goal. No player may touch the ball within the goal box, however any player may move through the goal box. Any part of the ball or player's body on the line is considered in the goal box; the player is an extension of the box. If a defender touches the ball in the goal box, a goal is awarded to the offensive team. If the defender OR the ball is in the box and contact is made, a goal is awarded. If an offensive player touches the ball within the goal box, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team. If the ball comes to a complete stop in the goal box, regardless of which team touched it last, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team. The goals are maximum of four feet high by eight feet wide.
